The Walkable axis is established as a project to draw up a traditional urban tissue decharacterized by the men’s action of road roots in the 70s. So, the interventions shall be made on behalf of recovering the tradition of walking, meeting and living with the water where it was once known as São Domingos Beach. A Beach in the past is currently a devitalized Landfill of great dimensions which contributed to the Mutilation of São Domingos, one of the most traditional and bucolic neighborhoods downtown Niterói. The space that once served people, serves cars today, which slightly move away the city from its primary function, the sociability.

Considering just the pendular movement established between Rio de Janeiro and Niterói, 450 thousand people (03 jam-packed Maracanã stadiums) pass through the ferry and road stations every day, having the project’s cropping area as their commuting path.

The relatively short times and distances established between the intervention area and what we call here RADIANT MOVEMENT POINTS offer basis to reflect on the needs of encouraging people who take that path to do it by walking instead of driving automobiles, which is the most of what we see today. The aim of the intervention proposal is to provide, through the Walkable Axis, the integration of the current urban voids, where the passers-by avoid to pass through, and the routine of those who pass there, as well as those who may be encouraged to walk there one day.
