The pedagogical strategy developed to intertwine three subjects of the curriculum of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at xxxx in the years 2018 and 2019 (Observation Drawing 1 + History of the Arts and Architecture 1 and History of Theories in Urbanism 1), all related to the first semester of studies, reveals the creative, questioner and mediator role of the observation / conception / exploration types of drawing in architecture. It also highlights the need to live the experience of the city among teachers and students, with a view to the construction of a non-linear discourse of history, consistent with our contemporary aesthetic situation.

Through the development of an appropriate schedule for each discipline, with intersections at crucial moments of learning (evaluations and joint external classes on Wednesdays), the process of 'wandering' through the city and recognizing its components and narrative elements, always recorded through drawings and texts in sketchbooks specially manufactured by students, it allows the construction of a repertoire, as well as the exploration of a drawing language that progressively increases and the deepening of historical issues easily assimilated by ‘guiding axes’ provided through the whole process.

The result, applied to planks rich in sketches called ‘ethnographic’ and essays on the explored axes, developed individually by students, demonstrates the richness of the strategy and the validity of the method as a medium and as a facilitator of architectural and urbanistic responses.
