1. site overview
“The competition site is located between an important and busy expressway (Avenida Brasil) and a cluster of favelas (Complexo da Maré) . This territory is currently occupied by warehouses and industrial buildings, most of which are abandoned or in disuse. The competition invites students to propose innovative urban solutions for the area, considering the local population, and their connection with the city."

2.Concepts and principles
With the outbreak coming, Brazil has become one of the most affected countries. Therefore, we hope to provide corresponding facilities in the site, from basic life to production lifestyle, and comprehensively provide people in Mare with the possibility of safe and Brazilian life.

The scheme is divided into three systems. The first set, 1.5m Facilities, aims to maintain the safe operation of the community. This part includes all basic service facilities for people, such as health stations, toilets and stations. The second set, 1.5m Working, aims to provide safe working opportunities for people who are unemployed at home or afraid to go out to work due to the epidemic, and at the same time provide safe food and access to funds for the community. The third set, 1.5m Socializing, aims to safely continue the Brazilian way of life, so that samba, football and worship can take place safely. The three systems are intertwined, systematically transforming abandoned garbage dumps and parking lots into spaces for residents' safe activities.

3.Integration to the urban context
The most distinctive feature of the site in texture is its industrialization, regularity and large space, compared with the dense self-built houses in the east. This actually reflects a kind of space separation: the large space is not in the same system as the residential area, and the idle space is not used by the residents. Therefore, when selecting the plot, we chose the site at the boundary where the conflict between the site and the slum is the most intense, and at the same time, taking into account the cost and speed of renovation, we directly used the existing factory buildings and open spaces for functional replacement. We also put in a green space and trail system to connect all the renovation parts in series.

The transportation of the site is extremely convenient, so we set up an advertising screen near Brazil Avenue to publicize and attract outsiders. Relying on airports and universities, planting factories have convenient transportation and sales conditions. At the same time, the special design of the route after getting off at the BRT station in the city can also attract people to the site.

4. System introduction
1.5m Facilities, designed to maintain the safe operation of the community, which includes all basic service facilities for people, such as health stations, toilets and stations. Through the special light device design, the residents' basic living activities become safer when they go out. At the same time, a lot of green space and children's activity space are put in this part to improve the current situation of lack of green space. At the same time, the slow walking trail system connects the sites in series to provide a safe streamline for riding, skateboarding and walking. This part responds the goals “Good Health and Well-Being” and “Clean Water and Sanitation” in《AN ARCHITECTURE GUIDE to the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals》

1.5m Working: data show that during the epidemic, people in Rio de Janeiro reduced their chances of going out to work by more than 40%, among which people living in low-income areas like Male were mainly affected. The unemployment of the labor force in the family will aggravate poverty, and family members may also suffer from hunger. Therefore, we provide a production streamline organized by residents. The local community organizations of mare are responsible for the production and sale of products, and part of the profits will be put into the community. This program aims to bring safe jobs, food and funds for community activities to Mare residents. Women and unemployed residents can participate to improve poverty. This part responds the goals “No Poverty” and “Zero Hunger” “Decent Work and Economic Growth” “Responsible Consumption and Production”in 《 AN ARCHITECTUR E GUIDE to the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals》

1.5m Socializing: the carnival in Brazil was cancelled due to the epidemic. Dances, bars and meeting gifts have also been temporarily banned. Therefore, on the basis of survival, employment and food safety, we also want to provide Brazilians with the possibility to continue their original lifestyle with safe social distance. For example, by setting up the giant projection screen, the whole Mare residents are attracted to activities on the terrace, and share this moment with people passing along Brazil Avenue and people in the neighborhood. Through the semi-outdoor playground, we provide safety, entertainment, rest and hygiene for Mare residents who love sports. Cultural and educational parks enable education, NGO and artist studios to continue to operate. This part responds the goals Good Health and Well-Being” “Quality Education” and “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions” in《AN ARCHITECTURE GUIDE to the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals》
